Nature of Work: In November/December 2007, staff of AA International Ltd led a CFSAM mission, on behalf of the FAO/WFP into Ethiopia. The purpose of this mission was to estimate national cereal and pulse production for the 2008 season as well as to review final estimates of production for the previous season. This information was used to estimate cereal import requirements, including food aid needs, for Ethiopia for the 2008 marketing year.

Title: FAO Guidelines for Crop and Food Supply Assessment Missions
Nature of Work: We are currently rewriting the Agricultural chapters of this document for the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation. These guidelines are produced by FAO's Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) and are used for Crop and Food Supply Assessment Missions (CFSAMs) worldwide, thus helping determine and justify global food aid requirements.

Title: Training Delivery in use of Pictorial Evaluation Tools (PETs)
Nature of Work: During September 2006, AA International Ltd delivered three training courses on the use of PETs for government extension officers as well as UN officers and NGO field workers in South Sudan. These Pictorial Evaluation Tools have been developed by AA International Ltd/ CAZS-NR to assist field workers to determine food crop yields in South Sudan. By comparing and contrasting visual impressions of crops in the field with photographs of crops that depict a range of expected yields, such non-specialist assessors will be able to judge crop yield to a satisfactory degree of accuracy. Title: Support to Southern Sudan Livelihoods Recovery and Development Project
Nature of Work: In May 2006 and again in September 2006, AA International Ltd provided advice and support to key FARM-Africa staff in South Sudan, in the design and conduct of a baseline survey as part of their livelihoods recovery and development project. This visit was the first of a series of "mentoring" visits that will be made by AA International Ltd to this project over its duration.

Title: Improved Integration of Root and Tuber Crops in CFSAM Food Balance Sheets
